We were introduced to the world of dog shows after taking our chocolate Labrador Retriever, Spanky, to obedience classes. He did so well we were encouraged by our instructors to enter him in obedience trials. Spanky was a joy to show and easily earned his CDX. He would later became a drug dog for the Brookesville, FL Police Dept In 1986 at one of these obedience trials we saw a litter of Pembroke Welsh Corgi puppies in an ex-pen. It was love at first sight. Since it was almost Bill’s birthday, Danelle contacted the breeder of the litter, Patty Blackwelder Gailey, and was able to adopt one of the puppies, Huey. At the time we were told he was probably the best pup in the litter but Patty didn’t keep males. Huey, named after the helicopter Bill was flying at the time, grew up to be multiple Best In Show and Best In Specialty Show CH Triad Captain Crunch CDX AX NAJ VC PHC TT ROMX. Huey would also sire 39 AKC champions and numerous performance titled offspring. Later when Huey was off for a weekend being shown by Patty, we brought a little female, Melba Toast, home to babysit. We never gave Melba back to Patty and she became the foundation bitch of Nomad Corgis. She is still listed as one of the top 10 producing bitches in Pembroke history with 9 Champions in only 2 litters. She and Huey produced a litter of 5 of which all earned their AKC Championships. Melba was officially known as CH Triad Toast Of The Town CD PHC ROMX. |
